Faridabad,4 June (Naveen Gupta): DLF Industries Association feels that World Environment Day celebrated and observed all over the world is the singular most important programme of United Nations for creating Awareness and action for the environment – said J.P. Malhotra, President. Water scarcity and depleting water table, deforestation, organised and unorganised rampart construction and urbanisation of forest land, filling up of ponds with municipal waste, speaks volumes of efforts we entrepreneurs and industrial fraternity have to take if biodiversity and greening has to sustain. According to Mr. J.P. Malhotra, 560 deaths per day due to bad water, 80 deaths per day due to poor Air Quality around us should stir our souls and serve as a wake-up call that Environment, Forest, Water, Air, Wildlife has to be preserved, whatever action it requires. Sh. M.P. Rungta said that individual actions have to be galvanised into collective power to generate exponential positive impact on the planet.

Sh. Vijay R. Raghavan, Hony. Gen. Secretary stated that the World Environment Day theme this year is Illegal Trade in Wildlife. The booming illegal trade in wildlife products is eroding Earth’s precious biodiversity, robbing us of our natural heritage and pushing whole species towards extinction. The trade endangers iconic elephants, rhinos, tigers, gorillas and sea turtles. Lesser known examples include helmeted hornbills, pangolins and wild orchids.

Sh. T.C Dhawan echoed concerns that more people need to understand the damage this illicit business is doing to our environment, economies, communities and security. We must also change our habits and behaviour so that demand for wildlife products falls. More awareness also increases the pressure on governments and international bodies to introduce and enforce tougher laws and combat those still willing to break them – said Mr. J.P. Malhotra.

The theme given by United Nations on World Environment Day 2016 encourages us to protect all those species under threat and take action of our own to help safeguard them for future generations.

DLF Industries Association urges you, whoever you are, and wherever you live, show zero-tolerance for the illegal trade in wildlife in word and deed, and make a difference. Let us resolve that collectively we can Impact the Environment.
