Faridabad, 26 September (Jaspreet Kaur): Team of World Bank lead by Ms. Jutta Franz, TVET Specialist, Ms. Megha Sharma, Consultant joined by Sh. J.P. Meena, Regional  Director of Apprenticeship Training, Govt. of India had a constructive interactive meeting on 20th September in the office of DLF Industries Association to promote Apprenticeship Training under STRIVE – Skills Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement. World Bank is working with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship towards STRIVE and one of the components of the programme is to fund Industry/ Company/ Business Association for development and implementation of Apprenticeship Training.

During the course of two hour long discussion, it was agreed that grant funding will be provided to undertake Apprenticeship Training in collaboration with Industries. DLF Industries Association will take steps to improve access to quality and market-driven vocational training provided in the ITI’s and apprenticeships including Research, Advocacy and Awareness rising. Mr. J.P. Malhotra  brought to the notice of the World Bank representatives that training in ITI does not create employable hands because the course content is not in synergy with skill sets required by Industries. At the same time the employer industry does not get any support.

Ms. Jutta Franz explained that the Industry Apprenticeship Initiatives will be dual and apprenticeship training programmes in line with market needs and needs of SMEs which will involve MSMEs, ITIs who would jointly plan, develop and build capacity to implement. The IAI would support all economic sectors, trade apprenticeship training, would be market-driven, will lead to full trade proficiency, pre-employment programmes, designed as dual training programmes, include training and capacity building, have a quality assurance plan and will be of at least one-year duration.

Prominent among those who were present were Ms. Megha Sharma, S/Sh. H.K. Batra, President FCCI, J.P. Malhotra, President, DLF Industries Association, M.P. Rungta, Advisor  DLF Industries Association, H.L. Bhutani, IMTIA, K.K. Nangia, Vijay Raghavan, S.K. Batra, Rajeev Sharma, M.S. Sodhi, Yogesh Bangia, Shailendra. All present appreciated the organization and content of information sharing by World Bank Team at the Meet. Mr. M.P. Rungta proposed Vote of Thanks and concluded that DLF Industries Association could prove to be right platform under the Presidentship of J.P. Malhotra and team to carry forward the initiative so that Industrial Fraternity of Faridabad could be benefitted. Mr. H.K. Batra said that land is a problem for Industrial Associations to carry out such Training and Leased Building should also be considered. Sh. H.L. Bhutani suggested Mr. J.P. Malhotra to explore the possibilities of using facilities at Haryana State Productivity Council which is already working on Industry need based Skill Development.

Mr. Sandeep Kalia acknowledged the efforts of DLF Industries Association for conduct of such a useful discussion meet at a very short notice.
